Into the second trimester

The last few weeks have been bonkers busy with the Bright B&B fully operational. Friends and family have been staying on an almost continuous basis and it’s been fantastic to explore N Cornwall with them all. Top recommendations so far:

  • Fish & chips at the Golden Lion in Port Isaac (brother-in-law could be included!)
  • Thursday night veggie chilli takeaway on Porthcothan Beach
  • Listening to a socially-distanced orchestra in the Mediterranean Biome at the Eden Project. Hearing live music again was honestly so emotional, I don’t think I realised how much I’ve missed it.

Meanwhile, the G7 posse have come and gone. AirForce 1, Joe Biden and his “Beast” flew in just up the road from our temporary home at St Ervan. But Rob, our builder, lives by the Carbis Bay Hotel so found himself literally marooned in the ring of steel around this tiny suburb of St Ives. With no way in or out, it at least gave him time to update our schedule of works. According to the latest version, we should be moving in to Delamere just after Christmas ☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻

Greek ruins seen at Sennen

Oblivious to all the madness up in St Ives, work continues on the site and we now have blockwork marking out the main load-bearing walls. Initially it all had something of the look of a set of Ancient Greek ruins. But now, I’m happy to report, it’s definitely looking like the start of a house!

Been really special to take friends round the site and show them what is clearly the outline of bedrooms, the kitchen and our terrace. (Did I mention you’ll be able to see the sea from the house!?!!) Friends from Farndon, Julie & Alan, were the first outside the family to get the tour and were suitably enthusiastic – even about the mechanics of the ground-source heating. (Though that may have been going above the call of duty, Alan!)

The block & beam foundations are in

So…. we’re 3 months in with approx 6 to go. The irony is not lost on us that we’re looking at a build of approximately 9 months. This “pregnancy” feels like we’re through the first scary weeks when you’re not sure what on earth you’ve let yourself in for!

And now it’s like we’ve had the first scan when the early signs of our baby’s form and bone structure are there for all to see. 😊

But, goodness me, she looks a lot bigger than either of us were anticipating!!
