Facilities now available on-site

As I left our temporary home near Padstow at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, the wind turbines at the top of the hill looked like elegant dancers, waving their arms in the early morning breeze. Everything in this county just seems more lovely – or maybe I’ve just got more time to notice it all.

Our youngest has joined me on this day trip to the very south-west of Britain – soon to be our home. He’ll no doubt disappear off on one of his favourite walks with Reggie. Man and dog are both very fond of Sennen Cove.

Today’s plan is to go round the site with Rob, our builder, planning where to put the many bushes and hedges currently dotted around this former garden. Once the diggers move in on Friday, there’ll be no mercy! It all still feels unreal – but it’s gloriously sunny and warm so feeling very positive. Better still, the bore holes for the ground source heating system have now been drilled – apparently they go down 220m into the ground. Ed, the heating engineer assures me our house will be toasty warm. Hard to believe when you see the pipework …..

By noon, we’ve sorted the plants, agreed a new home for the old summer house and pondered the future of the fish in the pond we have also inherited. Clearly, there is much more still to learn!

And then the portaloo arrived! Facilities for the team are now available; let the work begin!
