Be careful what you wish for ….

So …. my last blog ended with ” Who knows what other treasures await?” Hah!

On Monday the guys got digging in earnest. On Tuesday, they hit oil!

Sadly, not the type likely to change our fortunes but an oily sludge most likely resulting from an old container or engine having been buried in the ground many moons ago. So it is down tools as we await the results of a detailed soil and ground water survey from specialists at Soils Ltd. Fingers crossed it won’t be anything worse than domestic or engine oil but it is likely to mean the groundwater has to be specially treated before it can be pumped out and removed from the site.

On a positive note, utilities contractor, RBS, arrived promptly to start digging up the A30 approximately 1 mile from Land’s End! The installation of traffic lights just by our new driveway gave quite a sense of power! Which is why it was really quite a disappointment when the biggest traffic jam we created was only 3 cars long! Even Reggie looked underwhelmed! Still …. next week we will have electricity and running water on-site!

Beyond that, there’s not really been much to report this week, friends. Hopefully the gorgeous sunny weather will continue for a while yet so Rob and his team can crack on with the foundations once we understand the extent of the contamination.

The sooner we get “out of the ground” the easier we will all sleep!
